PMS
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is something that makes sense of all your mood swings, food cravings, fatigue, irritability, and any symptoms that you start to feel around your period, and they magically vanish once your period hits. PMS is associated with physical and emotional challenges, and it might affect your day-to-day life. As daunting as PMS […]

Partner Support
Menstruation is a natural phenomenon. Having periods makes one very vulnerable. Studies suggest that during this phase, fluctuations in reproductive hormones interact with brain chemistry and organs, making one more sensitive to stress, emotional rollercoasters, and physical pain, before or during the period. If your partner menstruates and you haven’t ever experienced it, you might […]

Period
Your period is more than just a few days of bleeding each month. It provides important clues about your body’s health, and changes in your bleeding pattern can sometimes be the first sign of an underlying medical condition. For example, when something is off with your thyroid, your weight, your stress load, your blood’s ability […]

Plan B
Plan B or the morning-after pill is an emergency contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. This pill is a quick and effective way of emergency contraception. Although the name suggests a morning-after pill, you shouldn’t wait until morning to take it. Its composition is 1.5mg of levonorgestrel, which is present in many hormonal […]

- Period I usually get my period for about 5 days, but this month it only lasted 2 days and was really light. I’m not on birth control, I haven’t changed my diet, and I’m not more stressed than usual. I took a pregnancy test just to be safe, and it was negative. Is this something to worry about, or can periods just randomly get shorter sometimes? That kind of sudden change can definitely feel a little unsettling, even when everything checks out negative like yours did. The good news is periods can shift for a cycle or two on their own; sometimes stress you're not fully aware of, poor sleep, or a small hormone fluctuation is enough to cause a shorter, lighter month. There's nothing you… Answered by Dr. Fatima Abbasi, MBBS on August 21, 2026
- PMS I have started to notice that around my period, I start feeling extra sad and stressed, and I feel overwhelmed by so many things that I just cannot get happy, no matter how hard I try. After the 2nd day of my period, I start feeling better. It is completely fine to feel this way. You are not alone in this. What you're describing is a low, overwhelmed phase that goes away once the period is properly underway. Your experience is a relatively common and well-recognised pattern, and the timing you've noticed is the most informative part of your message. Here's the general picture for your better… Answered by Dr. Fatima Abbasi, MBBS on August 21, 2026
- Plan B I took Plan B after unprotected sex on January 22nd. Afterwards, I had withdrawal bleeding about a week later, which lasted for about a week. Since then, I did not get my period until June 6th. Since then, I have not gotten a period in July, and it is currently August 10th. Throughout this time, I have taken several pregnancy tests, and they all came back negative. I just wanted to know if this is common, or if there is anything I should do. I will be having blood work and an ultrasound in September to see what is going on. Thank you! Thank you for writing in, and for setting out the dates so clearly. You are definitely in a lot of confusion right now, and it is okay to feel this way. Emergency contraception (levonorgestrel) does unsettle the cycle it's taken in. It can make the next bleed arrive early or late, heavier or lighter, and can result in a withdrawal-type… Answered by Dr. Fatima Abbasi, MBBS on August 21, 2026
- Partner Support I have realized that my girlfriend goes through a rough time dealing with her period. I am not very educated on this topic, so I would like to know any tips on reducing pain and things I can do to help her. I am so sorry to hear that your girlfriend has a hard time dealing with her period. As a partner, it must be a stressful situation for you. I will try my best to help you out. Painkillers: Pain is usually caused by cramping (contraction of the uterine lining) caused by prostaglandin production. Anti-inflammatory painkillers reduce the production of prostaglandins… Answered by Dr. Fatima Abbasi, MBBS on August 21, 2026
